The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 and the Book inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 And the elevated canopy 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, 18 Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. 19 They will be reclining on thrones lined up, and We will marry them to fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
