The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 and by the Book in lines 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 and the roof uplifted 5 and the sea that is full 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 there is none to avert it. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. 20 Those who believe, and whose descendants follow in belief, We will join their descendants to them. And We will not reduce them of anything of their deeds. Every one is pledged for what he has earned. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ and youths, of their own, shall pass among them as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 "Before this, when we were among our families, we were full of fear of God's displeasure -- 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
