EXHORT, then, [O Prophet, all men:] for, by thy Sustainer's grace, thou art neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or do they say, 'He is a poet for whom we await Fate's uncertainty'? 30 Tell them: "Keep on expecting, I am expecting with you." 31 Or do their intellects bid them do this? Or are they an insolent people? 32 Or do they say: "He has fabricated it?" In fact, they will never believe. 33 (If they are truthful in this), then let them produce a discourse of similar splendour. 34 Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]? 35 Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay, but they are sure of nothing! 36 Or are the Treasures of thy Lord with them, or are they the managers (of affairs)? 37 Do they have a ladder (by which they can climb up to the heavens) and listen (to the angels) and come back to the rest of the people with clear authority? 38 Or has He daughters, and they sons? 39 Or do you (O dear Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him) ask any fee from them, so they are burdened with the penalty? 40 Do they have knowledge of the unseen, thus, are able to predict (the future)? 41 Or, do they desire to outwit? The unbelievers are the outwitted. 42 Or have they a god, other than God? Glory be to God, above that which they associate! 43 And were they to see a portion of the sky falling, they will say, “It is a heap of clouds.” 44 Leave them then till they meet that day of theirs wherein they shall be made to swoon (with terror): 45 The day on which their struggle shall not avail them aught, nor shall they be helped. 46 Truly, for those who do wrong there is a punishment besides that, though most of them do not know it. 47 Wait patiently for the command of your Lord. We are watching over you. Glorify your Lord when you rise during the night 48 and proclaim the praise of thy Lord in the night, and at the declining of the stars. 49
