So remind [O Muhammad], for you are not, by the favor of your Lord, a soothsayer or a madman. 29 Or do they say: 'He is a poet, we are waiting for some misfortune to befall him' 30 Tell them: “Wait; I too am waiting with you.” 31 Or, do their intellects order them to do this? Or, are they an insolent people? 32 Or do they say, 'He has invented it?' Nay, but they do not believe. 33 Then let them bring a discourse like it, if they speak truly. 34 Or were they created out of naught? Or are they the creators? 35 Created they the heavens and the earth! Aye! they will not be convinced. 36 Do they own the treasures of your Lord, or have they been given charge of them? 37 Or have they any stairway (unto heaven) by means of which they overhear (decrees). Then let their listener produce some warrant manifest! 38 Or has He daughters, and they sons? 39 Or askest thou (Muhammad) a fee from them so that they are plunged in debt? 40 Or is the hidden with them, by which they pass judgements? 41 Or are they contriving a stratagem against you? If so, that stratagem will rebound against the unbelievers. 42 Do they have any god other than Allah? Exalted be Allah above whatever they associate (with Him in His Divinity). 43 If they should see a part of the heavens falling down, they would say, "A mass of clouds," 44 Then let them be (O Muhammad), till they meet their day, in which they will be thunder-stricken, 45 The day on which their struggle shall not avail them aught, nor shall they be helped. 46 And verily for those who do wrong there is a torment before that; but most of them know not. 47 And wait patiently for the judgment of your Lord, for surely you are before Our eyes, and sing the praise of your Lord when you rise; 48 And glorify Him in the night and when the stars begin to wane. 49
