EXHORT, then, [O Prophet, all men:] for, by thy Sustainer's grace, thou art neither a soothsayer nor a madman. 29 Or say they: a poet for whom we wait some adverse turn of fortune! 30 Say thou: wait verily I am, with you, among the waiters. 31 Nay! do their understandings bid them this? Or are they an inordinate people? 32 Do they say, "He has falsely invented it (the Quran)?" In fact, they themselves have no faith. 33 Let them then produce a recital like unto it,- If (it be) they speak the truth! 34 Or were they created by nothing, or were they the creators [of themselves]? 35 Have they created the heavens and the earth? In fact, they have no strong faith. 36 Or, are the treasures of your Lord in their keeping? Or, are they the controllers? 37 Or have they a ladder, by which they can (climb up to heaven and) listen (to its secrets)? Then let (such a) listener of theirs produce a manifest proof. 38 Has (God) daughters and they sons? 39 Or askest thou (Muhammad) a fee from them so that they are plunged in debt? 40 Do they possess knowledge of the unseen, so that they can write it down? 41 Or do they want to stage a deception? -- Then only those who do not believe will be the ones who will be tricked. 42 Or have they a deity other than Allah? Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him. 43 And were they to see a portion of the sky falling, they will say, “It is a heap of clouds.” 44 Wherefore let them alone, till they meet their Day whereon they shall swoon. 45 The Day when their guile shall not relieve them a thing, and they shall not be helped. 46 But, verily, for those who are bent on doing evil, there is suffering in store [even] closer at hand than that [supreme suffering in the hereafter]: but most of them are not aware of it. 47 So wait patiently for the Judgement of your Lord -- you are certainly under Our watchful eye. And glorify and celebrate the praises of your Lord when you rise up [from your sleep]. 48 and proclaim the praise of thy Lord in the night, and at the declining of the stars. 49
