The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the declining star, 1 Your companion did not err, nor did he go astray. 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 This is nothing but a revelation that is conveyed to him, 4 and taught to him 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 then revealed to his servant that he revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 By the lote-tree of the utmost boundary, 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 His sight did not waver nor was it unduly bold. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 despite the fact that [both] the life to come and this present [one] belong to God [alone]? 25
