The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 Bestowed on him by the Supreme Intellect, 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 While he was in the highest part of the horizon: 7 Thereafter he drew nigh, then he let himself down. 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 so (Allah) revealed to His worshiper (Gabriel) that which he revealed (to Prophet Muhammad). 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will you then dispute with him (Muhammad SAW) about what he saw [during the Mi'raj: (Ascent of the Prophet SAW over the seven heavens)]. 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Close to which is the Garden of Tranquility, 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
