The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it goes down,- 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 taught by One who is Stern in power. 5 The Lord of Strength; so he attained completion, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 two bows' length away, or nearer, 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 Near the Lote-tree beyond which none may pass: 14 Near it is the Paradise of Abode. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 and he certainly saw some of the greatest Signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 These [allegedly divine beings] are nothing but empty names which you have invented - you and your forefathers - [and] for which God has bestowed no warrant from on high. They [who worship them] follow nothing but surmise and their own wishful thinking - although right guidance has now indeed come unto them from their Sustainer. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
