The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the declining star, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 So the distance between the Spectacle and the beloved was only two arms’ length, or even less. (The Heavenly Journey of Prophet Mohammed – peace and blessings be upon him – was with body and soul.) 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 His heart lies not of what he saw; 11 What! So do you dispute with him regarding what he saw? 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 (This was) when the lote-tree was covered with that which covered it. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 For truly did he see, of the Signs of his Lord, the Greatest! 18 So have you considered al-Lat and al-'Uzza? 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 These are only names which you and your fathers have invented. No authority was sent down by God for them. They only follow conjecture and wish-fulfilment, even though guidance had come to them already from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
