The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the setting star, 1 your companion is not in error nor has he gone astray. 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is a revelations which has been revealed to him 4 taught him by one terrible in power, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 then he drew near, and became close 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 Thus He revealed unto His bondman whatsoever He revealed. 10 The heart did not deny, what it saw. (The Holy Prophet was bestowed with seeing Allah – see also preceding verses 8, 9, 10.) 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And certainly he saw him descend a second time: 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 Is it for you the males and for Him the females? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath sent down no authority. They follow but their fancy, and that which pleaseth their souls; whereas assuredly there hath come unto them from their Lord the guidance. 23 Is the human to have whatever he fancies? 24 To God belong the End and the Beginning. 25
