The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
CONSIDER this unfolding [of God's message,] as it comes down from on high! 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he say (aught) of (his own) Desire. 3 Indeed it is not except a Revelation which is revealed, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 While he was in the higher [part of the] horizon. 7 and then drew near, and came close, 8 he was but two bows' length or even nearer, 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The heart was not untrue in (making him see) what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And indeed he (Muhammad SAW) saw him [Jibrael (Gabriel)] at a second descent (i.e. another time). 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 When there comes to the Lote Tree, that which comes 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have ye thought upon Al-Lat and Al-'Uzza 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 What, have you males, and He females? 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 But to Allah belongs the last (Hereafter) and the first (the world). 25
