The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the star of the pleiades when it has dipped 1 Your companion hath not gone astray, nor hath he erred. 2 Nor does he speak of (his own) desire. 3 It [the Quran] is nothing but revelation sent down to him. 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 One of soundness. And he rose to [his] true form 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 Then he revealed to Allah's servant whatever he had to reveal. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 And indeed he did see the Spectacle again. 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The sight (of Prophet Muhammad SAW) turned not aside (right or left), nor it transgressed beyond (the) limit (ordained for it). 17 Indeed he (Muhammad SAW) did see, of the Greatest Signs, of his Lord (Allah). 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Nay, shall man have (just) anything he hankers after? 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
