The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the star when it goes down, (or vanishes). 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 It is not but a revelation revealed, 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 And he was on the horizon of the highest heaven. 7 Then he drew near, then he bowed 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The heart did not lie [about] what it saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 By the Lote-tree beyond which none can pass, 14 near unto the garden of promise. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 His eye did not waver, nor did it stray, 17 Indeed he saw the supreme signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered El-Lat and El-'Uzza 19 And Manat (another idol of the pagan Arabs), the other third? 20 What! for you the male sex, and for Him, the female? 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 These are nothing but names that you and your forefathers have invented, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They are merely following their conjectures and their carnal desires although guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 Rather, to Allah belongs the Hereafter and the first [life]. 25
