The Stars (Al-Najm)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the setting star, 1 Your companion does not err, nor does he go astray; 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 And reached the highest pinnacle. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 So he was the measure of two bows or closer still. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 Will you then argue with him about what he saw? 12 For indeed he saw him at a second descent, 13 by the lote-tree of the farthest limit, 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When that covered the lote-tree which covered it. 16 Neither did sight falter nor exceed the bounds. 17 Assuredly he beheld of the sign of his Lord, the greatest. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 That is indeed an unjust division. 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Or shall man have what he wishes? 24 So (know that) Allah only is the Owner of all – the Hereafter and this world. 25
