The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he misguided, 2 And he speaketh not of his own desire. 3 that [which he conveys to you] is but [a divine] inspiration with which he is being inspired 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 Lord of power and wisdom. So he acquired poise and balance, 6 the strong one who appeared on the uppermost horizon. 7 Then he drew nigh and came down 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 He certainly saw the greatest (signs) of the existence of his Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and your third idol al-Manat (whom you considered as God's daughters)? 20 Are yours the males and His the females? 21 That indeed is a division most unfair! 22 These are only names given by yourselves and your fathers. God has not given them any authority. They, (unbelievers), only follow mere conjecture and the desires of their souls, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord. 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 To Allah belong both the Next World and the present. 25
