The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Star when it setteth, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak out of desire. 3 This is naught but a revelation revealed, 4 One of mighty powers hath taught it him. 5 One strong of make. Then he stood straight. 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 Then he approached and descended 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 When He revealed to His votary what He revealed. 10 The heart lied not in that which he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And indeed, he saw him a second time 13 by the Lote-Tree of the Boundary 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When the Lote-tree was covered over with what it was covered over; 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 And Manat, the other third (of the pagan deities)? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are but names which you have named, you and your fathers, for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow but a guess and that which they themselves desire, whereas there has surely come to them the Guidance from their Lord! 23 Does man imagine that it is his due to have all that he might wish for, 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
