The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 That your companion is not confused, nor has he gone astray, 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 He was taught by one Mighty in Power, 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 while he was in the highest horizon; 7 Then the Spectacle became closer, and came down in full view. 8 Till he was two bows length off or yet nearer. 9 And he revealed to His Servant what he revealed. 10 His heart added no untruth to what he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 And assuredly he saw him at another descent. 13 At the farthest lote-tree; 14 Nigh unto which is the Garden of Abode. 15 when there covered the Lote-Tree that which covered; 16 The eye did not turn aside, nor did it exceed the limit. 17 Indeed, he saw one of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 (Can anything as such be considered true) of al-Lat, al-Uzza, 19 as well as [in] Manat, the third and last [of this triad]? 20 Are there sons for you, and daughters for Him? 21 That is indeed an unfair division! 22 They are naught but names which you have named, you and your fathers; Allah has not sent for them any authority. They follow naught but conjecture and the low desires which (their) souls incline to; and certainly the guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 What! Will man get whatever he dreams of? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
