The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the star when it descends, 1 Your comrade erreth not, nor is deceived; 2 nor does he speak out of his own desire. 3 It is but a divine revelation, which is revealed to him. 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 by the great mighty one (Gabriel), 6 While he [Jibrael (Gabriel)] was in the highest part of the horizon, 7 Then he drew near and drew closer 8 And was at a distance of but two bow-lengths or (even) nearer; 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 His heart did not falsify what he perceived. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he saw? 12 He certainly saw him (Gabriel) during his other ascent 13 to the Lot-tree (in the seven heavens) 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When the tree was covered with a covering, 16 The sight turned not aside, nor it exceeded. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 Have ye then considered Al-Lat and AL-'uzza: 19 And Manat, the third, the last? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 Then that is surely a very unjust distribution! 22 These are nothing but names which ye have devised,- ye and your fathers,- for which Allah has sent down no authority (whatever). They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own souls desire!- Even though there has already come to them Guidance from their Lord! 23 Does man imagine that whatever he wishes for is right for him? 24 Allah's is the last and the first. 25
