The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the star when it setteth. 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 Nor does he speak from [his own] inclination. 3 This is only revelation communicated, 4 Which one of mighty powers hath taught him, 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 And he is in the highest part of the horizon. 7 Then he approached and came closer, 8 until he was as close to him as the distance of two bows, or even less. 9 So did (Allah) convey the inspiration to His Servant- (conveyed) what He (meant) to convey. 10 The heart lied not (in seeing) what it saw. 11 Will ye therefore dispute with him concerning that which he hath seen? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 by the lote tree beyond which none may pass 14 near which is Paradise. 15 When that covered the lote-tree which did cover it! 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have you considered Lat and 'Uzza, 19 and, another, the third manat? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are not but [mere] names you have named them - you and your forefathers - for which Allah has sent down no authority. They follow not except assumption and what [their] souls desire, and there has already come to them from their Lord guidance. 23 Or shall man have whatever he fancies? 24 But it is to God that the Hereafter and this world belong. 25
