The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the declining star, 1 your companion has neither strayed nor is he deluded; 2 And he does not say anything by his own desire. 3 It is naught but revelation that is revealed, 4 He was taught by [an angel] who is mighty in power, 5 The Strong; then the Spectacle inclined towards him. 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 And was at a distance of two bows' length or (even) nearer, 9 So Allah divinely revealed to His bondman, whatever He divinely revealed. 10 His heart did not lie of what he saw. 11 Will ye then dispute with him concerning what he seeth? 12 Indeed, he saw him another time 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 Near which is the garden, the place to be resorted to. 15 when the lote tree was covered in mystic splendour. 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 truly did he see some of the most profound of his Sustainer's symbols. 18 (Among the idols) have you considered allat and al'uzza, 19 And subsequently the third, the Manat? 20 What, have you males, and He females! 21 That were indeed an unjust division. 22 They are nothing but some names that you have coined, you and your forefathers – Allah has not sent any proof for them; they follow only guesses and their own desires; whereas the guidance from their Lord has come to them. 23 Can ever man get what he desires? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
