The Stars (Al-Najm)
62 verses, revealed in Mecca after Absoluteness (Al-Ikhlaas) before He Frowned ('Abasa)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the star when it goes down. 1 your comrade is not astray, neither errs, 2 and neither does he speak out of his own desire: 3 It is naught save an inspiration that is inspired, 4 The Lord of Mighty Power has taught him, 5 one endowed with immense wisdom. He came forth and stood poised, 6 being on the higher horizon. 7 then came down close 8 until he was but two bow-lengths away, or even nearer. 9 So did (Allah) convey the Inspiration to His slave [Muhammad SAW through Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you dispute with him what he saw? 12 And he certainly saw him in another descent 13 At the Lote Tree of the Utmost Boundary - 14 by the Garden of [Eternal] Repose, 15 When that which covers covered the lote-tree; 16 The eye turned not aside nor yet was overbold. 17 Certainly he saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 HAVE YOU, then, ever considered [what you are worshipping in] Al-Lat and Al-Uzza, 19 And Manat, the third - the other one? 20 What! For you the son, and for Him the daughter? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 They are but names which ye have named, ye and your fathers, for which Allah hath revealed no warrant. They follow but a guess and that which (they) themselves desire. And now the guidance from their Lord hath come unto them. 23 Shall man have whatever he craves? 24 Nay! for Allah is the hereafter and the former (life). 25
