The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Star when it plunges, 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 He does not speak out of his own desires. 3 It is only an Inspiration that is inspired. 4 He has been taught (this Quran) by one mighty in power [Jibrael (Gabriel)]. 5 very strong; he stood poised, 6 While he was on the uppermost horizon. 7 then came down close 8 Until a space of two bow (arcs) or even less remained, 9 And He revealed unto His slave that which He revealed. 10 The heart [of the Prophet] did not misconstrue what he saw. 11 What, will you dispute with him about what he sees! 12 Indeed he saw him a second time, 13 by the lote-tree at the farthest boundary, 14 Close to which is the Everlasting Paradise. 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 (His) sight never swerved, nor did it go wrong! 17 Indeed he saw some of the greatest signs of His Lord. 18 Have you then considered the Lat and the Uzza, 19 and the third one, Manat? -- 20 Why - for yourselves [you would choose only] male offspring, whereas to Him [you assign] female: 21 Behold, such would be indeed a division most unfair! 22 They are naught but names yourselves have named, and your fathers; God has sent down no authority touching them. They follow only surmise, and what the souls desire; and yet guidance has come to them from their Lord. 23 Can the human being have whatever he wishes? 24 And to God belongs the First and the Last. 25
