The Stars (Al-Najm)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the star when it sets: 1 your companion is neither astray, neither errs, 2 nor speaks he out of caprice. 3 It is no less than inspiration sent down to him: 4 He has been taught by the Extremely Powerful. 5 One vigorous; and he grew clear to view 6 appearing in the horizon's loftiest part, 7 He (Gabriel) then came nearer and nearer. 8 until he was two bow-lengths away or even closer 9 And thus did [God] reveal unto His servant whatever He deemed right to reveal. 10 The [servant's] heart did not give the lie to what he saw: 11 Will you then dispute with him as to what he saw? 12 And certainly he saw him in another descent, 13 Near the lote-tree of the last boundary. 14 nigh which is the Garden of the Refuge, 15 When there covered the Lote Tree that which covered [it]. 16 [And withal,] the eye did not waver, nor yet did it stray: 17 He certainly saw of the greatest signs of his Lord. 18 Have ye seen Lat. and 'Uzza, 19 and about the third deity, al-Manat? 20 What! unto you the males and unto Him the females? 21 This indeed is an unjust division! 22 these are nothing but names which you yourselves have devised, you and your forefathers. God has sent down no authority for them. They follow nothing but conjecture and what their own selves desire, even though guidance has already come to them from their Lord! 23 Shall man have whatsoever he wisheth for! 24 But it is to Allah that the End and the Beginning (of all things) belong. 25
