Seest thou one who turns back, 33 and grudgingly spends very little for the cause of God? 34 Has he the knowledge of the unseen so that he can see? 35 Has not he been informed of the contents of the Book of Moses 36 And of Ibrahim, who was most obedient? 37 That no bearer of burdens will bear the burden of another 38 and that man shall have nothing but what he has striven for, 39 and that (the result of) his striving shall soon be seen, 40 and in the end he will be repaid for it in full; 41 And that the end is only towards your Lord? 42 And that it is He who makes [one] laugh and weep 43 And that it is He (Allah) Who causes death and gives life; 44 And that He creates the two mates - the male and female - 45 of a sperm-drop, when it was cast forth, 46 and that it is for Him to grant the second life, 47 And that it is He (Allah) Who gives much or a little (or gives wealth and contentment), 48 That He is the Lord of Sirius (the Mighty Star); 49 It is He who utterly destroyed the ancient tribes of Ad, 50 and Thamud, leaving no trace of them, 51 and that He it is Who destroyed the people of Noah before for they were much given to iniquity and transgression. 52 And He brought perdition upon the subverted cities 53 And covered them by that which He covered. 54 About which, then, of thy Sustainer's powers canst thou [still] remain in doubt? 55 This [Prophet] is a warner like the former warners. 56 The (Judgment) ever approaching draws nigh: 57 [although] none but God can unveil it.... 58 Do you, perchance, find this tiding strange? 59 And will you laugh and not weep? 60 Will you occupy yourselves simply in merriment? 61 Prostrate yourselves before God, and worship Him alone! ۩ 62
