Didst thou (O Muhammad) observe him who turned away, 33 and grudgingly spends very little for the cause of God? 34 Does he have knowledge of the unseen, so he sees? 35 Has he not been informed of what is in the Scrolls of Moses, 36 And Abraham who paid his debt: 37 Certainly no one will bear the responsibility of the sins of another, 38 And that man will not obtain anything except what he strove for? 39 and that (the result of) his striving shall soon be seen, 40 Then will he be rewarded with a reward complete; 41 To your Lord will all things eventually return. 42 And that He it is Who makes (men) laugh and makes (them) weep; 43 And that it is He Who gave death and gave life? 44 and that He Himself created the two sexes: male and female, 45 From a seed when lodged (in its place); 46 and that upon Him rests the second growth, 47 And that it is He (Allah) Who gives much or a little (or gives wealth and contentment), 48 that He is the Lord of Sirius, 49 And that He destroyed the former 'A-ad. 50 and Thamud, leaving no trace of them, 51 And the folk of Noah aforetime, Lo! they were more unjust and more rebellious; 52 And the overthrown cities did He overthrow, 53 so that there came upon them that which came. 54 About which, then, of thy Sustainer's powers canst thou [still] remain in doubt? 55 This is a warner of the warners of old. 56 The threatened Hour is nigh. 57 none except Allah can disclose it. 58 Marvel ye then at this statement, 59 And do you laugh instead of weeping, 60 While you are proudly sporting? 61 Rather prostrate yourselves before Allah and serve Him. ۩ 62
