The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
The Hour of Doom is drawing near and the moon is rent asunder. 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 They have cried lies, and followed their caprices; but every matter is settled. 3 Surely there came to them narratives (of the ancient nations) that should suffice to deter (them from transgression), 4 which are full of wisdom; but the warnings do not help. 5 So turn (your) back on them (for) the day when the inviter shall invite them to a hard task, 6 They will come forth, with humbled eyes from (their) graves as if they were locusts spread abroad, 7 Rushing towards the caller; the disbelievers will say, “This is a tough day.” 8 ۞ The people of Noah denied [the truth] before them. They belied Our messenger saying, "He is mad!" He was rebuffed, 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 Then We opened the portals of heaven with water poured out. 11 and caused the earth to gush with springs, so that the waters met for a predestined matter. 12 And We carried him on a (ship) made of planks and nails, 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 And We left it as a sign – so is there one who would ponder? 15 So how did My punishment turn out, and My threats? 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 'Aad denied; and how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 18 We let loose against them a violent roaring wind on a day of ill omen, continuous, 19 Sweeping men away as though they were uprooted trunks of palm-trees. 20 And how [severe] were My punishment and warning. 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
