The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
The Last Hour draws near and the moon is split asunder. 1 And if they see a sign, they turn away, and say: "This is continuous magic." 2 And they denied and followed their inclinations. But for every matter is a [time of] settlement. 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 Effective wisdom; but warnings avail not. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 abasing their eyes, they shall come forth from the tombs as if they were scattered grasshoppers, 7 Hastening, with eyes transfixed, towards the Caller!- "Hard is this Day!", the Unbelievers will say. 8 ۞ [LONG] BEFORE those [who now deny resurrection] did Noah's people call it a lie; and they gave the lie to Our servant and said, "Mad is he!" - and he was repulsed. 9 So he prayed to his Lord: "I am helpless, deliver me." 10 So We opened the gates of heaven with water pouring forth. 11 and caused the earth to burst forth with springs, so that the waters met for a purpose pre-ordained: 12 And We bore Noah on the vessel built of planks and nails, 13 which sailed on under Our supervision: a reward for him who had been shown ingratitude. 14 And We left it for a sign. Is there any that will remember? 15 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 16 We have made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would pay attention? 17 The tribe of A’ad denied – so how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 18 Verily We! We sent against them a raging wind on a day of calamity continuous. 19 Carrying men away as though they were trunks of palm-trees uprooted. 20 Then see how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings! 21 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 22
