The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
The Hour has drawn near, and the moon has been cleft asunder (the people of Makkah requested Prophet Muhammad SAW to show them a miracle, so he showed them the splitting of the moon). 1 And if they see a miracle, they turn away and say, "Passing magic." 2 They denied (the Truth) and followed their own lusts. Yet everything will come to a decision 3 They have certainly received the kind of news in which there is a lesson and strong words of wisdom, 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 So turn away from them. When on the Day the crier calls to the painful business, 6 They will come out of the graves with downcast eyes like an expanding swarm of locusts. 7 They shall be hurrying forth towards the caller, and the unbelievers (who had once denied this Day), will say: “This is a woeful Day.” 8 ۞ The people of Noah had denied before them, and had called Our votary a liar, and said: "He is possessed," and repulsed him. 9 So he cried unto his Lord, saying: I am vanquished, so give help. 10 So We opened the gates of the cloud with water pouring 11 And We caused the earth to gush forth with springs. So the waters (of the heaven and the earth) met for a matter predestined. 12 But We bore him on an (Ark) made of broad planks and caulked with palm-fibre: 13 That ran (upon the waters) in Our sight, as a reward for him who was rejected. 14 And assuredly We left it for a sign. Is there then anyone who would be admonished? 15 How was then My punishment and My commination! 16 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 17 The tribe of A’ad denied – so how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 18 We loosed against them a wind clamorous in a day of ill fortune continuous, 19 plucking up men as if they were stumps of uprooted palm-trees. 20 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 21 And We have indeed made the Quran easy to understand and remember, then is there any that will remember (or receive admonition)? 22
