The Moon (Al-Qamar)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
The hour drew nigh and the moon did rend asunder. 1 But if they [who reject all thought of the Last Hour] were to see a sign [of its approach,] they would turn aside and say: "An ever-recurring delusion!" 2 They have belied, and follow their own fancies. But, every issue will be settled! 3 And surely there hath come unto them news whereof the purport should deter, 4 a Wisdom far-reaching; yet warnings do not avail. 5 So turn away from them, (O Prophet). On the Day when a caller shall call them to a thing most terrible, 6 With downcast eyes, they come forth from the graves as they were locusts spread abroad, 7 running with outstretched necks to the Caller. The unbelievers shall say, 'This is a hard day!' 8 ۞ The folk of Noah denied before them, yea, they denied Our slave and said: A madman; and he was repulsed. 9 Therefore he called upon his Lord: I am overcome, come Thou then to help. 10 And We opened up the flood gates of the sky with water pouring down in torrents, 11 And We made the earth break forth with springs; so that the water met for an affair already decreed. 12 but him We bore on that [vessel] made of [mere] planks and nails, 13 running before Our eyes-a recompense for him denied. 14 And We have left this as a Sign (for all time): then is there any that will receive admonition? 15 But how (terrible) was My Penalty and My Warning? 16 And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember? 17 (The tribe of) A'ad rejected warnings. Then how (dreadful) was My punishment after My warnings. 18 Verily, We sent against them a furious wind of harsh voice on a day of evil omen and continuous calamity. 19 Plucking out men as if they were uprooted stems of date-palms. 20 How then were My punishment and My warnings! 21 We have made it easy to learn lessons from the Quran: is there anyone who would receive admonition? 22
