Thamud denied the warning 23 So they said, “What! Shall we follow a man from among us? If we do, we are indeed astray, and insane!” 24 Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar." 25 [We said to him] "Tomorrow they shall know who is the boastful liar, 26 Behold, [O Salih] We are letting loose this she-camel as a test for them; and thou but watch them, and contain thyself in patience. 27 Tell them that the water is to be divided between them, a drink each for them in turn' 28 They called together their companions and agreed to slay the she-camel. 29 Then, how (terrible) was My Torment and My Warnings? 30 Verily, We sent against them a single Saihah (torment - awful cry, etc.), and they became like the dry stubble of a fold-builder. 31 And certainly We have made the Quran easy for remembrance, but is there anyone who will mind? 32 LOT'S PEOPLE [too] gave the lie to all [Our] warnings: 33 We sent down upon them a violent sandstorm (which destroyed them all) except for the family of Lot, whom We saved in the early morning by Our favor. 34 through Our Mercy. So it is that We recompense the thankful. 35 And (Lut) did warn them of Our Punishment, but they disputed about the Warning. 36 And assuredly they solicited him for his guests: then We wiped out their eyes: taste then My torment and My warnings. 37 And at daybreak a determined punishment came upon them. 38 Taste then My torment and My warnings. 39 Hence, indeed, We made this Qur'an easy to bear in mind: who, then, is willing to take it to heart? 40
