And the Thamud belied the warnings. 23 They said, "Should we follow only one person among us. We shall be clearly in error and in trouble (if we do so). 24 Has the message been sent down upon him from among us? Rather, he is an insolent liar." 25 [And God said:] "On the morrow they will come to know who the boastful liar is! 26 Surely We are going to send the she-camel as a trial for them; therefore watch them and have patience. 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them: Each one's right to drink being brought forward (by suitable turns). 28 But they called their companion who took a sword and hamstrung her. 29 So how awesome were My chastisement and My warnings! 30 Indeed, We sent upon them one blast from the sky, and they became like the dry twig fragments of an [animal] pen. 31 We made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would take heed? 32 The people of Lot rejected Our warning. 33 and behold, We let loose upon them a tempest which rained stones upon them, except upon Lot's household whom We rescued in the last hours of the night 34 as a blessing from Us: this is how We reward the thankful. 35 For he had truly warned them of Our punishing might; but they stubbornly cast doubt on these warnings, 36 and even demanded that he give up his guests [to them]: whereupon We deprived them of their sight [and thus told them, as it were]: "Taste, then, the suffering which I inflict when My warnings are disregarded!" 37 And in truth the punishment decreed befell them early in the morning. 38 So taste My punishment and warning. 39 We have made the Koran an easy Remembrance, is there any that will remember! 40
