The tribe of Thamud denied the Noble Messengers. 23 For they said: "A man! Alone from among us, that we are to follow? Truly, then we should be in error and distress or madness!" 24 Hath the admonition been laid upon him from amongst us! Aye! he is a liar insolent. 25 It was said to Saleh, “They will soon realise tomorrow who is the mischievous great liar.” 26 We shall send the she-camel as a trial for them; so watch their end with patience. 27 And inform them that the water is to be shared between (her and) them. Each one's right to drink being established (by turns). 28 But they called their companion who took a sword and hamstrung her. 29 So how did My punishment turn out, and My warnings? 30 Then We sent against them one Shout and they became like the trampled twigs of the (sheep) penbuilder. 31 We made the Quran easy to understand, but is there anyone who would take heed? 32 The people of Lot denied the warning. 33 We let loose on all of them a squall of claystones, except for the house of Lot whom We saved at dawn 34 as a blessing from Us: this is how We reward the thankful. 35 And certainly he warned them of Our violent seizure, but they obstinately disputed the warning. 36 And they even sought to snatch away his guests from him, but We blinded their eyes. (They heard:) "Now taste ye My Wrath and My Warning." 37 And certainly a lasting chastisement overtook them in the morning. 38 "Then taste you My Torment and My Warnings." 39 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance. Is there any that will remember? 40
