The tribe of Thamud denied the Noble Messengers. 23 So they said: What! a single mortal from among us! Shall we follow him? Most surely we shall in that case be in sure error and distress: 24 Was he the one of all of us to have been given the exposition? He is surely an impudent liar." 25 It was said to Saleh, “They will soon realise tomorrow who is the mischievous great liar.” 26 We are sending to them as a trial, a shecamel, so watch them and have patience. 27 And tell them that the water is to be divided between them, each drink for each in turn. 28 Eventually, they summoned their companion, and he undertook the (outrageous) task and hamstrung the she-camel. 29 How [terrible] were My punishment and My warnings! 30 Behold, We let loose upon them one single blast [of Our punishment,] and they became like the dried-up, crumbling twigs of a sheepfold. 31 And in truth We have made the Qur'an easy to remember; but is there any that remembereth? 32 The nation of Lot belied Our warnings. 33 Indeed We sent a shower of stones upon them, except the family of Lut; We rescued them before dawn. 34 through Our Mercy. So it is that We recompense the thankful. 35 And assuredly he had warned them of Our grasp, but: they doubted the warnings. 36 And they even sought to snatch away his guests from him, but We blinded their eyes. (They heard:) "Now taste ye My Wrath and My Warning." 37 And in truth the punishment decreed befell them early in the morning. 38 'Taste now My chastisement and My warnings!' 39 Now We have made the Koran easy for Remembrance.
