The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the mountains will be crushed, blown to bits. 5 and become a dust, scattered, 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 As for the Foremost, they will be the foremost! 10 They shall be near-stationed (to their Lord), 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few of the later peoples, 14 (They will be) on thrones woven with gold and precious stones, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 And fruit that they prefer 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and extended shade, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 and fruits in abundance, 32 never-ending and unforbidden. 33 on raised couches. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 and made them virgins, 36 Beloved (by nature), equal in age,- 37 with those who have attained to righteousness: 38
