The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 Abasing (one party), exalting (the other), 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye will be three kinds: 7 Companions of the Right (O Companions of the Right!) 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few of those of later time. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining on them, facing one another. 16 Immortal youths will serve them 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of pure drink; 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 and with fruit of any kind that they may choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 as reward for their deeds. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 They will be in (the shade) of thornless lote 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And extended shade, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 and upraised couches. 34 for, behold, We shall have brought them into being in a life renewed, 35 And made them virgins. 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 for those on the Right, 38
