The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 abasing, exalting, 3 When the earth is shaken up convulsively, 4 And the hills are ground to powder 5 they will become like dust scattered around. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Those on the right hand; how happy shall those on the right hand be! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 And a few of later ages, 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets, jugs and cups of crystal clear wine 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And (there are) fair ones with wide, lovely eyes, 22 Like unto hidden pearls, 23 a recompense for that they laboured. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 near to flowing water 31 And fruits numberless, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
