The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 There is, at its occurrence, no denial. 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 You shall then become three groups. 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 The third to the fore shall be the foremost. 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A throng of the ancients, 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 There shall go round unto them youths ever-young. 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Unheady, uninebriating; 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 Bird meats that they relish, 21 And companions with big beautiful eyes 22 like pearls preserved in their shells, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 As for those of the right hand -- how (happy) those of the right hand -- 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and banana trees, 29 and shade extended, 30 Gushing water, 31 And fruit in plenty 32 Neither ending nor forbidden. 33 And on couches or thrones, raised high. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - 36 Devoted [to their husbands] and of equal age, 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
