The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)

In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 It will bring low (some); (and others) it will exalt; 3 When the earth shall be shaken with a (severe) shaking, 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 Turned to dust, floating in the air, 6 You will become three categories: 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 And the People on the Left: and how miserable will be the People on the Left! 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 A number of the earlier peoples, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 On lined couches, 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 Carrying bowls and pitchers – and cups filled with wine flowing before them. 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruit of what they select 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 [And this will be] a reward for what they did [in life]. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Only the saying, "Peace! Peace". 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 [They, too, will find themselves] amidst fruit laden lote-trees, 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 And shade extended 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither intercepted nor forbidden, 33 And [with them will be their] spouses, raised high: 34 and the noble maidens that We have created 35 And made them virginal, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38

When reading the Colorful Quran in English transliterated Arabic mode, you may not notice that there is an algorithm designed to match the pause requirements of the original Arabic scripture, (waqf signs). As you may know, the original Arabic Quran has five main types of pauses, (waqf) signs. (1) Compulsory break, where the transliteration uses a full stop. (2) Optional pause with the preference for pausing, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a probability of two thirds. (3) Optional stop with an equal preference for pausing and resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a half-half probability. (4) Optional pause with the preference for resuming, where the transliteration uses a comma that may appear with a chance of one third. (5) Attraction pause, also called hugging, or (mu’anaka) sign, where it is compulsory to pause at either one of two nearby positions, but not both; where the transliteration inserts a comma at either one of the two locations with a half-half probability.
