The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 there is no denying its coming 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 when the earth shall be rocked 4 And the mountains shall be crumbled to atoms, 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 On that day, you (mankind) will be divided into three groups: 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In Gardens of Bliss: 12 (a throng of the ancients 13 And a few from the latter. 14 They will recline on jewelled couches 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 they will be waited on by ageless youths 17 with goblets and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Their heads shall not ache with it, nor shall they lose their senses. 19 And fruits that they may like. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 Therein they hear no vain or sinful discourse. 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 NOW AS FOR those who have attained to righteousness - what of those who have attained to righteousness? 27 Amid thornless lote-trees, 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 and extended shade, 30 and outpoured waters, 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 And maidens incomparable. 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 For those on the right hand; 38
