The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 Then will no (soul) entertain falsehood concerning its coming. 2 some shall be abased and others exalted. 3 When the earth shall be shaken to its depths, 4 And the mountains are crumbled, crumbled. 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then the companions of the right - what are the companions of the right? 8 And the Companions of the Left Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Left Hand? 9 The foremost ones (in faith and virtue) - the foremost ones in receiving their reward. 10 Those! they shall be the brought nigh, 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 and a few from later times. 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And such fruits as they fancy, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will not hear therein any vain or sinful talk, 25 But only the saying of: Salam!, Salam! (greetings with peace)! 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 And banana-trees (with fruits), one above another. 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water poured out 31 And fruit, abundant [and varied], 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 and raised couches 34 and their spouses We shall have brought them into being afresh, 35 And made them virgins, 36 chaste, loving companions of the same age 37 for those on the Right, 38
