The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ WHEN WHAT IS to happen comes to pass -- 1 (and none denies its descending) 2 (a calamitous Event) that shall turn things upside down: 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they will become floating dust particles. 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 (First) those on the right hand; what of those on the right hand? 8 The people of the left hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their left hands. How miserable they will be! 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 These will be those nearest to Allah. 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A multitude from the ancients. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 reclining upon them, facing one another [in love]. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 a drink by which their minds will not be clouded nor will it cause drunkenness; 19 And with fruits, any that they may select: 20 And the meat of fowl, from whatever they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 A Reward for the deeds of their past (life). 24 There they shall hear no idle talk nor any sinful speech. 25 only the words of peace and tranquillity. 26 And the fellows on the right hand; how be happy shall the fellows on the right hand be! 27 Among thornless lote-trees 28 and flower-clad acacias, 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and flowing water 31 And plenty of fruits. 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those on the right hand; 38
