The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When the Event inevitable cometh to pass, 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 It will bring down [some] and raise up [others]. 3 When the earth will be shaken with a terrible shake. 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 so that they become as scattered dust 6 And ye shall be sorted out into three classes. 7 Companions of the Right, what are the Companions of the Right? 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 those are they brought nigh the Throne, 11 In Gardens of Delight. 12 a host of the ancients 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On couches wrought of gold, 15 they shall recline, facing each other, 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 With vessels, pitchers and a cup [of wine] from a flowing spring - 18 that will neither make the head throb, nor intoxicate, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 And the flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 and fair maidens with large, lustrous eyes 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Other than "Peace, peace" the salutation. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 And shade extended 30 And water poured out 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 and made them virgins, 36 full of love, well-matched 37 for those on the Right, 38
