The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the great event comes to pass, 1 There is no belying its coming to pass-- 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 when the earth will suddenly shake with a terrible shaking, 4 The mountains bruised and crushed, 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 [on that Day,] then, shall you be [divided into] three kinds. 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And those Foremost (in Faith) will be Foremost (in the Hereafter). 10 they who were [always] drawn close unto God! 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 And a few of those (foremost) will be from the later time (generations). 14 Seated on couches wrought in gold and encrusted with precious stones, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 (and there) shall wait on them immortal youths 17 carrying goblets and ewers and cups filled with the purest wine, 18 by which their minds will not be clouded and which will not make them drunk; 19 they will also go about them with the fruits of which they may choose, 20 and any flesh of fowl that they desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 As recompense for all they had done. 24 Therein they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 only the saying 'Peace, Peace!' 26 Those on the Right, how fortunate are those on the Right! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water gushing, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 We have created maidens perfectly 35 and We made them spotless virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
