The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
۞ WHEN THAT which must come to pass [at last] comes to pass, 1 no soul will deny its coming. 2 The event will be abasing some, and exalting some. 3 When the earth will tremble, shivering. 4 and the mountains are totally shattered and crumble to pieces 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you will become divided into three categories. 7 Those of the right hand -- how (happy) will be those of the right hand! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Delight, 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 They (will be seated) on gold-encrusted couches, 15 reclining upon them, set face to face, 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets and ewers and a cup filled with a drink drawn from a running spring, 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And [for them are] fair women with large, [beautiful] eyes, 22 as the likeness of hidden pearls, 23 shall be their recompense for their deeds. 24 They will not hear any useless speech in it, or any sin. 25 Except the word peace, peace. 26 And those on the right – how (fortunate) are those on the right! 27 (They will be) among Lote-trees without thorns, 28 and serried acacias, 29 And spreading shade, 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit abundant. 32 never-failing and never out of reach. 33 And raised couches. 34 Verily, We have created them (maidens) of special creation. 35 And made them virgins, 36 Lovers, friends, 37 like of age for the Companions of the Right. 38
