The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
۞ When the Terror descends 1 and there can be no denying its happening, 2 Abasing (some), exalting (others); 3 When the earth is shaken with convulsion 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 and will scatter abroad into fine dust. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 So those on the Right Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Records in their right hands), Who will be those on the Right Hand? (As a respect for them, because they will enter Paradise). 8 Companions of the Left, what are the Companions of the Left? 9 But the foremost shall be [they who in life were] the foremost [in faith and good works]: 10 These are they who are drawn nigh (to Allah), 11 They will dwell in the Gardens of Bliss: 12 A numerous company from among the first, 13 And a few from the latter. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining face to face. 16 They will be served by immortal boys, 17 Cups and decanters, beakers full of sparkling wine, 18 Wherefrom they get no aching of the head nor any madness, 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And flesh of fowls that they desire. 21 And [with them will be their] companions pure, most beautiful of eye, 22 Like pearls safely hidden. 23 The reward for what they did. 24 They will hear no nonsense there or talk of sin, 25 All talk will be sound and upright. 26 And the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 27 They shall recline on high amidst lote trees without thorns 28 And [banana] trees layered [with fruit] 29 And a shade ever-spread. 30 and gushing water, 31 and abundant fruits, 32 Unending, unforbidden, 33 and upraised couches. 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 and shall have made them virgins, 36 intensely loving and of matching age. 37 For the fellows on the right hand. 38
