The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the forthcoming event does occur. 1 There is no denying that it will befall - 2 (Many) will it bring low; (many) will it exalt; 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 And the mountains are broken down, crumbling 5 So that they become dust seattered. 6 And ye are classes three. 7 Those on the Right -- how blessed are those on the Right! 8 And those on the Left Hand (i.e. those who will be given their Record in their left hands), Who will be those on the Left Hand? (As a disgrace for them, because they will enter Hell). 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 They shall be the nearest to God. 11 They are in Gardens of peace. 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 upon close-wrought couches 15 facing one another. 16 immortal youths going round about them 17 With goblets, (shining) beakers, and cups (filled) out of clear-flowing fountains: 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 with fruits of their own choice 20 And the flesh of fowl such as they desire. 21 And there will be fair ones large eyed. 22 Like unto Pearls well-guarded. 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 They will not hear any unnecessary or sinful talk 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 The Companions of the Right Hand,- what will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 27 (will be) among thornless Lote trees. 28 Among Talh trees with flowers (or fruits) piled one above another,- 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in abundance. 32 unfailing and not forbidden. 33 And raised couches; 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 And made them virgins. 36 Loving, equals in age, 37 for the people of the right hand 38
