The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 There is about its happening no lie. 2 abasing [some,] exalting [others]! 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So that they shall be as scattered dust. 6 And you shall be three sorts. 7 The people of the right hand - those whose books of records will be placed in their right hands. How happy they will be! 8 And there shall be such as will have lost themselves in evil: oh, how [unhappy] will be they who have lost themselves in evil! 9 And the Outstrippers, the Outstrippers 10 It is they who are the close ones. 11 In the gardens of bliss. 12 A multitude of those of old 13 and how few of the later folk) 14 (They will be) on Thrones encrusted (with gold and precious stones), 15 facing one another. 16 immortal youths shall go about them 17 with goblets, and ewers, and cups filled with water from unsullied springs 18 They shall not be affected with headache thereby, nor shall they get exhausted, 19 and such fruits as they shall choose, 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 and wide-eyed houris 22 like the pearls in their shells: 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 There hear they no vain speaking nor recrimination 25 Only a saying: "Peace, peace." 26 And those on the Right Hand, Who will be those on the Right Hand? 27 They shall be in the midst of thornless lote trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and gushing water, 31 And abundant fruit, 32 That will neither finish, nor ever be stopped. 33 And exalted thrones. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 having resurrected them as virgins, 36 Loving (their husbands only), equal in age. 37 For those on the Right Hand. 38
