The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
۞ When there happeneth the Event. 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 When the earth is violently shaken 4 and the mountains will crumble 5 And become dust dispersing. 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then (as to) the companions of the right hand; how happy are the companions of the right hand! 8 Those on the Left -- how unlucky are those on the Left! 9 And the foremost are the foremost, 10 Who will be honoured 11 in the Gardens of Delight 12 A multitude of those (foremost) will be from the first generations (who embraced Islam). 13 and a few from later times. 14 [They will be seated] on gold-encrusted thrones of happiness, 15 Reclining thereon, face to face. 16 Youths of never-ending bloom will pass round to them 17 With cups, and jugs, and a glass from the flowing wine, 18 neither causing headaches, nor intoxication; 19 And fruit; that they may choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire. 21 And wide eyed houris 22 like hidden pearls, 23 As reward for what they used to do. 24 Not frivolity will they hear therein, nor any taint of ill,- 25 Except the saying, “Peace, peace.” 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 (They will be) among thornless lote-trees, 28 and serried acacias, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 and waters gushing, 31 And fruits numberless, 32 undiminished and never denied 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 Lo! We have created them a (new) creation 35 We have made them virgins, 36 loving companions, matching in age, 37 for those on the Right, 38
