The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
۞ When the inevitable event comes, 1 And there can be no denying of its befalling. 2 It will abase some and exalt others. 3 When the earth is shaken with a shock 4 and the mountains crumbled 5 becoming scattered dust, 6 and you shall be three bands -- 7 Then (there will be) the Companions of the Right Hand;- What will be the Companions of the Right Hand? 8 Then those of the left hand -- how (unhappy) will be those of the left hand! 9 And the preceders are the preceders. 10 Those are the ones brought near [to Allah] 11 In the Gardens of delight (Paradise). 12 A large group from the earlier generations. 13 And a few from those of later times. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 Reclining on them, facing each other. 16 There will circulate among them young boys made eternal 17 With goblets and ewers and a cup of limpid drink. 18 which will not cause them any intoxication or illness. 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and the meat of any bird that they may desire; 21 They will have maidens with large, lovely black and white eyes, 22 Like pearls within their shells, 23 A reward for what they used to do. 24 They shall not hear therein vain or sinful discourse, 25 but only the tiding of inner soundness and peace. 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 [They will be] among lote trees with thorns removed 28 And clusters of banana plants. 29 And in everlasting shade. 30 By water flowing constantly, 31 And fruit in plenty, 32 unfailing, unforbidden, 33 They shall be on upraised couches, 34 Verily We! We have created those maidens by a creation. 35 And have made them virgins. 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For those of the right hand. 38
