The Inevitable (Al-Waaqe'ah)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
۞ When the Event (the resurrection) comes 1 there will be nought that could give the lie to its having come to pass, 2 Degrading (some) and exalting (others); 3 This will happen when the earth is shaken, shaken 4 and the mountains crumbled, 5 So that they become a scattered dust, 6 And you become [of] three kinds: 7 Thus, there shall be such as will have attained to what is right: oh, how [happy] will be they who have attained to what is right! 8 And those on the left – how (wretched) are those on the left! 9 And the forerunners, the forerunners - 10 Those are they who will be brought nigh 11 In gardens of delight; 12 Many of them will be from the ancient people 13 but only a few from the later generations. 14 On couches in wrought with gold. 15 reclining on them facing each other; 16 There wait on them immortal youths 17 with goblets, and ewers, and a cup from a spring 18 Whereby there shall be neither headiness nor will they be inebriated. 19 And with fruit from that which they choose. 20 and with the flesh of any fowl that they may desire to eat; 21 And (there will be) Houris (fair females) with wide, lovely eyes (as wives for the pious), 22 beautiful as pearls hidden in their shells. 23 A recompense for that which they have been working. 24 There they shall hear no idle talk, no cause of sin, 25 Nought but the saying: peace! peace! 26 As for the People on the Right, how fortunate shall be the people on the Right! 27 mid thornless lote-trees 28 and acacias flower-clad, 29 In shade long-extended, 30 And in perpetually flowing water. 31 and fruit abounding, 32 Neither out of reach nor yet forbidden, 33 And [upon] beds raised high. 34 We have formed them in a distinctive fashion, 35 And made them virginal, 36 Loving, of equal age. 37 For the sake of the companions of the right hand. 38
